Creating intellectual humility and reframing change as learning and growth (vs “flip-flopping” or failures of integrity). Building skill in changing our mind is an important step in creating change. Adam Grant suppoorts this skill with a description of what it means to re-think what we know, how we know it, and the skills we need to learn and integrate new information and perspectives.

“What gets us into trouble is not what we don’t know. It’s what we know for sure that just ain’t so.” That observation is often attributed to Mark Twain but, ironically, one thing we don’t actually know is who first said it. In this month’s resource, Adam Grant invites us to explore ways in which “knowing” and “certainty” keep us from learning and growing. As we work to cultivate compassion, approaching ourselvs and other with curiosity primes us to learn. Even more importantly, this intellectual humility positions us to to connect with others more effectively. That’s the value of learning to Think Again.
